My first M1 garand (already looking for my next) 6 digit serial number
Hello
This is my first post but i have been lurking around on the website for a year or so.
I purchased my Garand about 6 months ago just because it was a good price and i didn't have one in the safe. I actually bought it off of one of my customers I have bought several firearms off her. But thats another story. So i have been looking around on here and have found out lots of info on my M1 but was wondering if the experts can tell me all the things that I missed . I have not taken the weapon apart to get all the numbers yet but will be dropping it off to a friend of mine who is a gunsmith to disassemble it and take pics of the parts . I was told it was a cmp gun but did not get any paperwork with it . I assume it is what you guys refer to as a mix master since the barrel dosent match the receiver
Heres what i know about it so far.
Serial number 366242 makes it a September 1941 year receiver
Barrel looks to be 1945 3 s a 5 45 then a .P
The stock thats on it is a boyds (I was bummed it didn't have the GHS stock)
But about 4 months after I picked it up the ladyIi bought it from called me and said she found the original stock and wanted to know if I wanted it .(she was going to throw it away)
So I raced over to her house to get it . I was disappointed to see it was not a GHS but its better than the boyds . Its a NFR which i believe is from Nov 1944 to June 1945
There is a number stamped in the stock that i have no idea what it is 4414 maybe a rack number ?
It came with an extra op rod and a bayonet but the bayonet is not the right year or from the right country as far as i can tell its a danish bayonet from 1965 and the scabbard is a year or 2 newer
I am trying to figure out the picture thing . My photobucket seems to be giving me fits .
I think my pics can be found here
