Buttstock plug removal issues, or the cause of my mental breakdown

Normally, I take things like this as a mental challenge that I have to work out on my own. But, work has become exceedingly stressful, so my patience is pretty much a memory.

So, how do I remove the Stock Bolt Buffer plug to be able to remove the buttstock? I cannot seem to figure it out, and it's taxing what little patience I have left. I want to shoot this weekend, but my neurotic approach to things like this require that I beat this plug issue before I shoot.

PLEASE help this poor new Lee-Enfield owner, and thanks in advance to everyone for their advice or commiseration.

You need a worm as used to pull wads from muzzle loaders. A coat hanger bent straight with a 90 degree "hook" about 1/8" long bent on one end would work. Grind or file the tip of the hook to a chisel point and amuse yourself by trying to get the hook into the 1/4" hole in the leather washer.

That makes more sense than the chainsaw related solution I was pondering. I'll give it a try in the morning.

I have used the coat hanger trick in the past. I picked up one of these last year and it seems to do the trick as it was designed to do.

Your probably aware but if your not, the forend must be removed first.

We had a little tool in our Armourers basic tool kit. TOOL, removing, wad, stock-bolt. I'm totally bemused as to why you just didn't look down the 3/4" hole with a torch whereupon the answer would have been obvious

Another possible trick is to weld a wood screw to a length of 1/4" bar to screw into plug then pull out.

Excuse my ignorance, but why did the Lee Enfield need a butt plug?

To keep your oiler from rattling in the hole.

If the buttstock is good and tight, maybe leave it alone and just use it this weekend. :-)
If you remove it and it was well bedded, it is possible you may not get it as tight as it was.
