Steyr 1895M Safety Issues

I found another project rifle today, a Steyr 1895M. Metal in good shape, intact extractor and fixed clip in place. It needs new wood and barrel bands along with a new rear sight.

My issue is my Petersons guide includes a warning about firing these with full 8mm loads. "Many experts consider them to be unsafe with full power loads".

I've searched the net last evening and this morning and can find no reference to these being unsafe and considering the power behind the original rounds, I can't see how it should be an issue.

What I did find is lots of references on how not to load single rounds into the chamber so as to not break the extractor which is normally already broken on these anyway due to missing fixed clips.

I have never heard of a issue with the M95Ms, just with the 1890/24s that exist (the weaker 1888/90s converted to 8mm Mauser, which is really a sketchy conversion).

Thanks Eaglelord, I kind of thought as much. I dug out my book but haven't had a chance to read it yet, I wanted to check on something else first.

Five years ago, I bought a junk stock out of a bin for $5 because I needed a sling swivel off of it. I then tossed the stock into the attic entryway and it's stayed there ever since with the exception of me salvaging a butt plate screw off of it. I dug it out today and it is the correct stock for this rifle. I can hardly believe it. I now just need to get the hand guards, barrel bands and the rear sight along with the missing sling swivel. I'll take the butt plate and screws off the one I bought today, much better shape.
