K98 S/42 1938 questions

Hello, I just joined Milsurp and have questions on a K98 I'm looking at.
It's a S/42 1938 serial # 5479e. All numbers on metal parts match and carry WaA63 but...the rear of bolt has a Star stamped on it in addition to WaA63 and the serial number. What does the Star indicate??

Second, the stock has a matching serial number in the barrel channel but none on the inside of the handguard. It is marked with WaA214, H, WaA214 on the underside behind the trigger guard. Oberndorf was WaA63. Why doesn't the WaA on the stock match all the other WaA 63 on the gun?

Is it the star of David? Hebrew in it?

Jim, Thx for the reply...No it's not the Star of David nor a simple asterisk just a 5 pointed star with no lines in the middle.

Pics would be helpful, but conventional thought is that asterisk marked pieces are rejected parts that were corrected during manufacturing process and re-used.

One just sold in the the WTS area, although it was a 1936 year of manufacture. Check the ad aand click on the link for the detailed photo montage and compare it against yours.

I think a 1938, even though a later year, should have the serial number marked inside the wood, just like this one has..
