You could get a stud machined that replaces the forestock inner band screw.
Here is a thought. If you can find a cut up 1907 bayonet and fasten a Versapod type stud to the front.

Thanks guys.. I've had similar thoughts for mounting, but everything always wound up getting more involved than I wanted. Too long to wait for things to get machined or too much $ for a rusty part of a bayonet I need... I did come up with an idea using 1" junior channel iron fastened through the holes for the rear sight guard and the inner barrel band and using a Marlin 336 scope mount fastened to that as an adapter for a bipod to clamp on. We'll see how this works for now... Thanks again

So this is what I came up with on the bipod. 11 inch long Tie wraps! Who knew! & Cheeeep! Pretty solid ,and no marks are left behind. The rifle is a No2 Mk IV .22 LR. converted from a 1916 BSA No1 Mk III* in the 1950s.
My eyes now need a scope. I put a Weaver 330 (light & low) on it using the ATI mount for No1 Mk IIIs . This mount gives me very low scope mounting, placing my eye nearly where it will be when I use the issue sights . The whole set up is pretty crude but I think with 22LR. the ATI scope mount will be OK for a box or two of ammo testing but if the rifle were a 303 no way would I trust it. If it proves shaky anyway, it will come off and on will go my PH 5A. That should come off after the testing is done depending on how my eyes hold up. I mean the issue sights are be plenty good for 25-50 yd. and w/o the PH5A it will then look like a hunnert year old SMLE had oughtta look… That is, if one overlooks the bipod… wink
Only permanent mod I made was with the H-I-D-E-O-U-S TRIGGER PULL . Went with the usual tricks to get it down to perhaps 2.5 - 3lb. or so. I stayed with the two stage military trigger system but reduced trigger pull weight of the stages. Stage 1 pull is as smooth as glass and dependably comes to a dead stop for the beginning of stage 2. Stage 2 breaks like glass… If I do say so me self!. ( No scale to test it with, but it doesn’t matter cause it’s just right for me)

I carry a kit with ALL three of those "life-savers", and a bunch of other adhesives, sealants, wire, rope, etc., in my car, along with the more usual first-aid kit and fire extinguisher.
That aside, neat solution; only possible downside is that excessive tightness in the ties may leave compression marks in the top handguard. Maybe you could wrap a wide strip of old inner-tube rubber around the entire mounting area on the fore-end and handguard before zipping up the ties.
