I tried that with lead ball in 45-70 at one point, with limited success too. Not much penetration with this cartridge. Not like ball.
an early 22/7,62x51mm and a green tip duplex which used two 83 grain bullets. There was limited use in Viet Nam of the duplex 7,62mmhttps://www.milsurps.com/images/impo.../29yicg3-1.jpg
There was an M1 sold a few years ago in PA chambered for the 22-06 duplex, these rifles are around. It was often rumored that the old DCM sent some 22-06 rifles to
customers by mistake, most were returned. Not much you can do with a 22-06 M1 except to hang it on the wall
The US Army even tried some duplex round ball loads in the black powder 45 Colt, the round ball duplex loading in 45-70 lasted until WW1 and there was a duplex loading
of lead balls for the 30-40 Krag too.
That's where I got the idea, I could only manage a double load. The ball in front of the powder would fly true and the front one, only being pushed...would strike in a four inch circle somewhere around the back ball. It also showed less penetration... I should thing these would run the same. I was using a Ruger #3 for the platform. 457 round ball...
