Frustration in installing K31 bolt assembly.Help!

No matter what I do I can't get the bolt assembly to slide all the way in. Any ideas? Thanks much.

Do you have the magazine in? There is a bolt hold open that is engaged when the magazine is empty. If this is the issue, just remove the magazine, or push down on the follower well pushing the bolt in.

Thanks much for the quick reply. I can't insertit more than an 1.5" from the breech opening (may be incorrect). I'm a real clutch because I'm having the identical problem with a sporterized 1896 and one stock K31 from the 30's.

Weird. Unless it is the bolt hold open I can't think of anything that would prevent them from being inserted. As far as I am aware it is pretty much impossible to misassemble those bolts, and have never had a issue with inserting them.

Thanks, it must be operator error. When I insert it should it be in the firing position or half safe position? When do I switch it over? Thanks

The cocking piece needs to be reinserted back into the 'cocked' position (firing position). This is also a verification that the bolt has been assembled properly as if it hasn't the firing pin will slide down the firing pin channel, knocking off the operating rod.

Thanks. Problem solved by your resident dumb ***. I had reversed the bolts on my table and was trying to put the older rifle bolt in the newer rifle and vice versa. I apologize for wasting your time.

Has me curious now. I was unaware that the 1886 and K31 bolts were similar enough to even start down their respective bolt channels. I never would have guessed that was the problem. It is a good lesson on why to never disassemble more than one rifle at a time.
