No 4 Mk 2 part needed.
This evening I went to my gun safe to clean an Enfield No 4 Mk 2 in preparation for a range trip. I purchased this rifle a number of years ago, but have never fired it.
The front sight guard, which is the stamped variety, was loose. A trip to the shop for a screw driver revealed that the screw is about 1/8" to short. It must have been like that when I purchased the rifle. Yes, I am sure it is short etc. The hole on the milled guard on my No 4 Mk1 appears to be deeper counter sunk, the screw I have may be for that.
Numerich does not list a different fronght sight base and guard screw for the Mk 2, and is out of the ones for the Mk 1. Sarco lists LE 4039 Foresight Protector screw for the Mk 1, but I would rather not deal with them. A Google search did not turn up other suppliers.
This all leads to a couple of questions:
1. Is there a good source, USA preferablly, for No 4 small parts I do not know?
2. Are there really two different length guard screws?
-
yes on parts, Springfield Sporters are highly regarded for parts, service and prices!
I'm not sure on the screw, I can check and get back.

Yes, there are two lengths for the screw. The short one is interchangeable with the SCREW, rear, trigger guard and the longer one is for the fabricated foresight protector. As you say, the hole for the head isn't drilled as deep. See BDL for a replacement.
Oh yes, if you're in England, these 4BA srews are the same as those used in your wall plug fittings

lol, lol... I just knew my enfield/s must match something else in the british empire!
-
Sure those two screws haven't been interchanged? You might have the front sight screw in the trigger guard.;)

Here is a link to a source of Brit fasteners in the States:

Trimmed to length this #4BA x 1 1/4" raised/countersunk will do for either the rear triggerguard or foresight proctector. You can polish the trimmed end a bit with emery cloth, then heat in a torch until it turns blue, quench in oil, and then burn a few more quenchings into the steel to blacken.

This guys speciality is Enfield screws. I have never purchased any of his products, but keep his site available for when I do need something.
Check him out! http://www.customscrewsandmore.com/

The thread is a standard English 4BA. (Obsolescent but stll readily avaiable).
Get a standard "cheesehead" screw, adapt to length and blue it.
I'll send you one if you are desperate.

Thanks for help
Thanks everyone for the help. :super:
Yes, I had checked the guard screw length they have not been interchanged.
I have ordered a modifyable one. Should solve my problem.
Now to load some more non corrosive .303 for this rifle so I can take it to the range. It is just to nice to risk with the surplus corrosive I shoot in most of my Enfields. I have shot a lot of corrosive stuff over the years with no problems, but don't like to do it in really nice looking rifles. I really don't know why. :dunno:
