No1 mkIII* Target project

My target rifle project is now complete.Following the purchase of the AG Parker No9 match sight; I acquired the correct mounting plate from a dealer in the UK and some longer screws from the USA.
Fitting was easy and the sight alignment appears spot on. I used a laser to check basic alignment of the original sights and the dioptre; setting them both at 200 then 1000 yards to check they remain straight.

I tested the rifle with 5 rounds and compared to 5 from my L39. (50 metre range )
I am very happy with the result. The rifle has standard bedding but needed a lot of care to get it shooting well.
I will be using it for the modified service rifle class next year.
The rifle is a 1929 BSA.

I'd love to shoot in competition but the eyes just aren't up to it even after LASIK. What size are the blacks on those targets you're using at 50 yards? And are you using an i hold or putting top of front sight at point of impact??

Newcastle: For fun I made up some targets that duplicate original (100m) K98k factory test targets but using bright, coloured paper. I'm finding them very good for testing at my range where light conditions tend to change rapidly. I've tried other colour combos including flourescent orange on black, etc.

The targets I used for this test were the 10 metre air pistol targets; the black circle is 6 cm or about 2 1/4" diameter.
The No1 rifle still uses the standard front blade, so I try to get the black dot just on the top of the blade. It is very small at 50 metres!
The L39a1 rifle has a Parker Hale Matchmaker front sight with various front blade options. On this occasion I had a circular hole in the front blade, so much easier to get a good sight picture with this rifle.


With regard to the competitions; you can use a No4T or L42A1 in the modified class as they issued to combat troops; but I was told the L39a1 cannot be used because it was issued for competition use!
However as they are all basically modifications of the original No4, it's a bit confusing.
