1903 Mark 1 - Just sharing

I saw a photo last year from a collector who had purchased a 1903 MARK 1 from the CMP , the MARK 1 stamp was on the receiver but the ejection slot
on the left side was never machined !
Also saw a MARK 1 that developed a crack from the ejection slot or port all the way back

I have heard that in the 1920-30's the Mk1 rifle was hardly used in competition. Apparently the oval slot allows the receiver to flex a very slight amount. The competition shooters figured that out very quickly.

The Model 1917 also had the oval slot but the Remington Mosin-Nagant that used the Pedersen Device had the magazine on the left side of the receiver and was without a left side oval slot

I've heard that the Mark Is were in reserve until ca. 1930, when nearly all the Pedersen Devices were destroyed. After that, the special parts were removed and the rifles were issued to the National Guard.
