New (to me) Gewehr 88/05
Hi all,
Just thought I would share with you all my most recent addition to my collection. It is a Gewehr 88/05 rifle made in 1891 at Loewe in Berlin. It was sent to Turkey like the vast majority of 88/05 rifles however I have a couple questions on it.
The middle barrel band and the magazine have been re-numbered to match the rifle. I suspect this was done in German service as every Turkish Gewehr 88 I have seen they didn't care about matching the numbering except on the bolt (which they did with Arabic numerals). This leads me to believe that this rifle just happened to be lucky enough to be reassembled with some of the original (originally replaced that is) parts. This also could mean if that is correct I can actually figure out what regiment had it when it was in German service. Otherwise the rifle is a complete mismatch (other than the receiver barrel and barrel shroud), but still is a very neat rifle none the less.
Well here is some pics. I also did slug the bore already and it has the typical 315/321.5 dia bore (which means either lightly loaded 150grn .323 ammo or trying to get set up for .318 bullets).

This is a unique locking screw system I have never seen before, any information on it would be appreciated.
