Oiler Question

I made a deal awhile back to buy some M1 Carbine Slings and needed some Oilers to sell with these Slings. I had bought a batch of 10 USGI Oilers, but I don't recall ever seeing this one, if I did I would of just gave it back to him. I have been searching for some info without finding anything. I'm almost positive it's a fake. It's doubled Stamped which means somebody had done it twice, ofcourse. But I thought I would check before chunking it. Thanks

Definitely not stamped by a GI maker.

But not a throw-a-way. It could be used in a shooter, display or reenactment piece.

Just because it's double stamped doesn't, in my opinion, imply that it's a fake and I don't think that it would have been scrapped because of this especially in wartime. It was probably just a slight mishap on the production line or was used as a "try-out"/1st off to set up the stamps on the production line. Looking at my similar M1 oiler which is not double stamped, the stamps are slightly off centre and I doubt if the soldier who used it noticed or cared if he did.

I seen doubled Stamped genuine parts before. I thought that the U.S marking made it fake. I can hold on to it for someone that can use it like Jim mentioned. I just can't use it with these Original USGI Slings I have. Thanks Guys for the help.

Double stamping has nothing to do with it being a repop. To the best of my knowledge, NO USGI oiler was marked US.

Here is my M1 Carbine Oiler and looking at again in daylight when I'm not so tired reveals that it is in-fact marked "I.S". Are there any suggestions for the meaning of "I.S., please?

I too believe the one marked "US" if a fake marking. Considering how many have been examined here alone, I'd think we'd have seen them before.

Do you think the oiler in post 1 is a fake, Jim, because it's marked "U.S." rather than because it's been double stamped?

I think it was unmarked and is now stamped "US" by someone that had a stamp. They aren't scarce and they may be postwar.
