Hacksaw Ridge, great gun footage!

Realized when I got out of my college classes today that Hacksaw Ridge came out today! Went with a group of friends to see it, and was very impressed overall!


Do not expect saving private Ryan quality when it comes to accurate battlefield depiction. BUT the slow motion, up close footage from all angles of the guns, provided a very unique and awesome touch to the movie. Especially with the BAR's and Thompsons.. Lots of humor in the movie as well. Definitely lots of blood and guts, even more than saving private Ryan.


As to the weapons, I was happy to see allot of lockbar sights and early featured carbines. There were some late/postwar sights as well, along with adjustable sights and bayonets lugs. There was a grease gun, and an M1A1 carbine which looked out of place in a PTO movie. Nice footage of a Japanese sniper, and what appeared to be the correct reticle for it as well.


All in all, I was happy with it. I'm mainly just happy to see WWII being remembered in the theaters, and helping to preserve what those boys did, even it takes some overdramatized explosions and stunts.

Thanks for the review definitely be watching it, I keep an open mind with war movies and their gear unless your going to sit their & critique their sticking to period perfect then you may as well go the the ice cream parlor instead. The Siege of Jadtiville or what ever it was called was pretty good the only 2 bits I thought were off was no horizontal wire on the No.32 scope and the single shot with open sights from the Bren by the sniper killing the suited man at about 300m+.
I thoroughly enjoyed Saving Private Ryan as the beach scene was well done probably not what was really happening but you have to consider they are actors and setting off explosives is always a tad risky in a movie scene with lots of people running around

Saw Hacksaw ridge for the second time the other day. You see things you don't notice the first time.
For the first half of the combat scene there was 7.62 brass laying around everywhere but no 30-06. Then someone must have pointed out the inaccuracy and for the second half there was 30-06 brass laying around and no 7.62. Even like the camera did some close shots on the 30-06 brass just to show it is correct.

In Chuck Tatums book "Red blood, black sand" he mentions an M1 Carbine with a folding stock. I'd never thought they were used in the PTO either, must have been seriously limited.

Someone passed a copy of the book on to me. I am about half way thru but can highly recommend the book & am now motivated to see the film.
