French civilians joyously greet and wave the French flag for a photograph with U.S. Army soldiers of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division after their town of Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes was liberated just one day after the Allied landings. Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes is located at the eastern end of Omaha Beach, one of the landings sites on D-Day at the beginning of the Battle of Normandy.
