I got these two pieces in an auction lot and haven't a clue what they are.
The first one is the size of a .45 auto.
The second one is 30/06 size that has a spring loaded retractable pin inside

The 2nd cartridge with the shaft out the front is a round they used to train with for the '03, there was a special tube that fitted into the bore with and internal rod, the small rod in that cartridge when chambered was held just off that rod in the bore, there were special targets that the shooters set up with aiming marks calibrated in size to represent actual sight picture with another one in line with the muzzle under neath the one they sighted on.
The muzzle was almost touching the target so when the shooter fired the weapon the F/P hit the primer disc causing the rod to move forwards inside the cartridge (spring loaded) which then hit the rod in the barrel this in turn moved out to puncture the target directly below the one the shooter was aiming at. It was used by the USA team whilst sailing to Britain on a ship so they could practice on board so as not to get stale, the kits were cased and had 5 rounds, they are not often seen good pick up.
Well, I thank you SIR, I would have never guessed the real use for it.
My thought was it had something to do with headspacing or gauging how far from the lands the bullet was.

"Perhaps one of the most unusual U.S. dummies is that designed for the Hollifield Target Practice Rod device. This ingenious device fitted in the barrel of the M1903 rifle and was essentially a rod with a sharp point on the end. These special dummies, which also had a rod in them, were placed in the chamber. "Firing" the rifle resulted in the rod in the cartridge transmitting the blow to the rod in the barrel which popped out of the muzzle, pricking a paper target held just in front of the rifle. These dummies were made from fluted and smooth cases. Look for the slightly protruding rod at the bullet tip."

The little short one looks like a mortar igniter charge.
1) is a Cartridge Grenade Auxiliary M7 intended to increase range of rifle grenades. It was made from a 45 ACP draw piece, filled with powder and inserted open end first in the spigot type grenade launcher. AKA the vitamin pill.

Years ago I read that you could make your own pistol, not revolver, training device with a #2 pencil that has a new eraser by wrapping masking tape around the pencil in 2 places; neat metal eraser holder, and the front of the pencil, to just under bore size. I don't remember about the target info except had a reduced target and there was a 'X' below it by the distance from the top of the sight to the centerline of the muzzle There were several on an 81/2 X 11 sheet and it it was attached to the wall. A sharpened pencil was dropped down the barrel, eraser first. The shooter then took their 'normal' stance about 1" inch from the wall.
Cock, aim, fire... the pencil marks the paper just under the reduced size target.
Targets should not bee too hard to make on a computer nowadays. Not minute of angle, but if you live in an apartment, it keeps the neighbors happy.
