Hello all. I just received a brand new unissued stock for my no1 mkIII . Its very nice but the darn thing will not fit as i expected. Can anyone give me any tips on getting the charger bridge in the slot and bedding of the receiver? Thanks, and happy holdays!
Guys will be along soon to guide you. As for me, I just have a warning. Prepare yourself because your going to want to beat that stock on the floor into tiny little pieces of wood and burn them. Not a job for the novice......
There is a thread here somewhere about fitting No4 fore-ends. The No1 is all of this PLUS the muzzle end. But you MUST ensure that it isn't warped left/right/up/down before you start. Fitting a fore-end from scratch was not a job you undertook lightly
Thanks guys. After some very careful use of my trusty dremel tool;I have the stock fitting nicely, and the triggar is functioning well and is very tight. Thanks for all the good support. Being on here guves me a great vibe. Its very close nit, sorrta like a family thing going on. All the best

Can I just ask a question did you put a marker smeared on the action like say lipstick then place it in the stock then remove it to see where it is contacting and not contacting its vitally important for the draws and the action are bearing where they should be as the Lee line is very finicky how it is bedded to get the best out of the accuracy, Peter L will attest it is not a real novices job and not a drop in fit like the cab ranks we have today just my thoughts also the trigger should not "be very tight" but smooth with no binding or are you referring to the stock/action fit!!!
Same thoughts here Cinders! It's the use of some fine sharp flat chisels that you need. Unless you can get flat dremil tools.

Indeed, chisels for the draws. Only option there is...............other than "hot shoeing" like a blacksmith, LOL!
Blair9899: If you sense a wee bit of skepticism it's only because yesterday you were asking for basic info re: bedding the SMLE and today you've announced completion of the project........with a dremel! If you are new to this and would like to know how well you did your work why don't you describe how you approached the different aspects of bedding and get some feedback. It is possible to have a forend attached and looking normal but completely incorrect- I bought one a couple of years ago that blew my mind- the draws weren't even in contact with the sear lugs and yet I had to knock it off with a mallet. If you were already well versed in the procedure ignore my comments. Regards.
