Harlans post revived "Carbines in Vietnam"

I didn't want to loose this post in the 'M2's in Vietnam' post, so please bare with me.

I've been looking thru old posts today.... and thinking of Harlan, a great friend, now passed away for nearly a year. Sure miss the hours we spent on the phone talking hunting, carbines and love for the kids. We shared laughs and some tears. Holidays sadly bring back memories of lost loved ones. Harlan had such great respect for any who had served. All the while he fought and dealt the best he could with many trials in his personal life.

His post about "Carbines in Vietnam" is one I pull up often. I know it's hard for many who had been there to read thru, because of the memories. But it gives others the chance to say Welcome Home and Thank you.

So in Harlans memory I'd like to pull this posting back up. View the picture he posted. He'd like that.

Not trying to get political here ( I think we've all had enough of that for a while) But I remember part of a quote from Glenn Beck (I'm no fan of his) but this hit home. This is the best I can recall it-

Beck....... "A country has no bigger responsibility than to care for those who have served it"

Has it really been that long painter Harlan was a true gentleman even though I only knew him through this site, the fraternity here has lost a good member. R.I.P

Yep it has...I was messaging back and forth with him and then I wasn't. I had no idea what happened. I'm still friends with his boy Tony on facebook...

Yeah, I hear ya Jim. I got a huge box of helmets, books, parts and memorabilia from Harlan. He knew he was not in good shape and it wouldn't be long for him when he sent it. They are all in my man cave where I can view them on a regular basis. He even sent me a data plate off a jeep his family had when he was a kid 'cause he knew I was into jeeps. The whole Harlan thing with his passing has never sat right with me :(

One big mystery... My little pieces are two sets of wings, US issue, not rare or uncommon. I'd told him about my service time and experiences and he sent me a set of jump wings and a set of heliborn ops wings...

I was talking on the phone with Haran about knives and helmets. He collected helmets. He asked if I would send him a knife I carried in VietNam. I did. Then a week or so later I get a box in the mail. I guess he worked out a deal with Jim (BAR) and I had a 1968 era helmet to go with my shadowbox display. He even made me a stand for it. That's the kind of guy he was. I really miss him.
