I've got another riddle for you guys..

This could and maybe should go into the swiss rifle catagory, however this isn't really swiss specific it's more of a general 'what the heck is this'. Anyways, it's a swiss 1911 carbine, nothing special about it really, other than being neat and a good shooter (haven't found one that isn't though) I've had this for a few years and always wondered what In the world these wear points could have been from I figured since I'm in the company of many brilliant people, some of which from near where this gun was made, it's worth asking. Without further avail, please let me know your thoughts on the attached photos.

The patches? They're placed there to repair some sort of damage.

Well yeah, I gathered that it was a repair. It's apparent that It was worn down, repaired and the repair was worn in the same exact spots. So it indicates some kind of unique repetative storing. I'm just curious if it might tell somebody what kind of use this old girl might have seen. I know it's a stretch.

It maybe that the hand-guard had a long longitudinal split and new wood was inlaid to tie the wood together and to reinforce it.

An interesting thought, however these dark pieces look to be very thin veneer. I'll attach a pic of the underside.

He's asking about the notches worn in the two patches. Perhaps from a rifle rack they went into every day...

It likely is that simple I suppose. Deep down I was hoping for some glorious back story. :)

Hardly ever is there one. This probably saw bags of guard duty. That would have it in and out of a rack...unless it was carried in a vehicle storage rack where it jiggled and shook all day. That would do it too.

I'll go with Jim as being a carbine allot more vehicle friendly (shorter o/all length) it could have been in a rack behind the driver or stored vertically say like you see in U.S police cars and what ever it was stored with created that wear patterns, nice looking pair of rifles.

On either side of the centre patch, about half way up, there appears to be a crack/split that is why I wondered it the patches were an attempt to repair or stop a split.
