Hello all.
I recently purchased a 2nd series Nagoya Type 99 in pretty good condition, except for the stock. The stock has a duffle cut on the lower end where the stock meets the barrel band.
Is it worth the hassle and try to repair it? or should I but another one?
If I were to buy a new stock, could I buy a stock from another arsenal?, say a Kokura stock?

That being said, I am a big fan of splice under the barrel band. I have done it a number of times. That being said, that solution isn't for everyone.
You can certainly try to use a different arsenal, but I have had to shave off bits of wood to make them fit. They are close, but there may be some variation.
Generally I do stock replacement only for extreme cases of "bubbification" or damage...
The problem with the splice is that the screw is a pain to put back in properly. The cut was made where the hole for the screw was, so theres only a little wood left on the side of the hole, if that makes any sense. I'll try to take it apart and take some picture, but im afraid that Ill shred the remaining wood.

I'd do my best to salvage the existing stock if it's complete. Many ways to splice wood and the good part is it's out of sight under the band. You can work on it from the barrel channel with some wood splices cut into it or maybe small dowels using the cleaning rod hole as a guide to place them if it goes deep enough.
