Lancing College seems to be alive and well. Presumably they decided they didn't need that memorial anymore, which is a bit sad, but unless they locked it away it in a safe they'd probably have to deactivate it for display. Tough call that.
Has anyone ever heard of a rifle being donated as a memorial to a soldier killed on active service before? I've heard of hospitals which were built, following WW1, to commemorate lost soldiers and I believe that many of the war memorials which were erected in almost every city, town and village during the 1920s were often paid for by public donations but I think this is the first time that I've ever heard of a rifle being donated.
