SMLE III

SMLE III* cocked and locked up. Cannot unlock. What to do ?

Is your safety on?

I suspect it may be in the half cock position. This locks the bolt so it cannot be opened.
Resist the temptation to hit it with a hammer and pull back on the cocking piece at the rear of the bolt untill it clicks.
Hopefully this will cure the problem.

Just to be clear, he probably means "Resist the temptation to hit it with a hammer. Instead, pull back on the cocking piece at the rear of the bolt untill it clicks."
