M1903 with C Stock

I bought this from a fellow after the asking price continued to fall right in front of me and I had to do something about it. The rifle has interesting features and comments or info on this rifle would be welcome so I can learn more about it. There are drawing numbers on the stock and handgaurd, other marks on the comb, cut off and what looks to be a hand or fake (maybe?) inspector stamp to me. There is also a S stamped into the barrel channel where the rear of the sight collar sits and a barrel mark that maybe I think means it was sent back for straitening or something. The bore is shiny bright with no obvious defects. The sights are aligned dead straight for six o'clock hold at 200yd graduation. I also noticed that the digits in the serial# are crooked,there is a bolt stop and some punch marks at different places on the receiver, and the rear sight has the volley notch at the top. C stocks do not come around much my way so I do not know much about them. That would be a nice rifle for me too...I always liked the "C" stock and a nice higher number for shooting... A good price would do me in too...

I think the stock and handgaurd are a good find but would be better for an earlier rifle by about three years, I'm out of info.

Not listed in SRS. It was probably a spare receiver made into a rifle when WW2 rolled around since it has a 1942 barrel.

There was a L T T rebuild stamp as I have one on a early Rock Island stock, I don't know if your L T T is original ?

I don't know, I have never heard much if any, at all, discussion about the L T T. Vaguely I do remember reading that it would be hand stamped? but I cannot recall where so I might be mistaken. There is also a 7 at the bottom of the bolt handle and a Hatcher hole that I did not mention earlier. That stock fits the action and barrel incredibly well. I can see where the receiver behind the recoil lug has mated itself across the entire contact area and when I put it back together there was no interference with any of the exterior parts. Even at the rear tang area magazine box etc. Thanks for looking.

High probability that 1536285 - 1536325 is the range of last serial number struck (Beard).

So this serial was made (number stamped) sometime before June 1940, so it is close to very end of production. The receiver/barrel may be original to each other. L.T.T. is listed in "The Collectible 1903 Springfield" with an "SA ?" beside it. If purchased for under $1000, I think it to be a decent buy.

The Bolt Stop is a nice find.
