So I recently bought a 1903a4-gery built off a reclaimed drill receiver and found that the rear bolt tap wasn't done quite right. I took it to my gunsmith to have it redone proper and the receiver chipped away the tap. He'd had the tap for awhile and figured it was just at the end of it's life and ordered a new one. When he tried with the new tap the same thing happened. He now going take it to his machinist and see if he has any insight.
Has anyone ever run into this issue?*
Rear bolt tap?? Say what?? Ship it off to Chuckindenver, he knows A4's. Good luck.
"wasn't done quite right" doesn't give us much to work with
I had posted a reply but I think it got lost. Make sure you have the right tap, some taps are hard and will shatter easy so you can break them up in a hole. You need 1/4x25 a 24 will start and then seize right up. I would have to look at some notes to makesure but I would look at that first.
Was this a Smith Corona receiver?
Some Gunsmiths refuse to D&T SC receivers.
Please post a picture - "rear bolt tap" simply does not compute.
