Ok, I am trying to remove my M1917 safety. I have not removed it from the stock and it will not rock out. I am rocking it back and forth and pulling with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

What I did was remove the stock and bolt then removed the back part of the safety. Turn the safety until it points down. Take a small screwdriver and push the plunger forward and grab it with needle nose where it sticks out. The safety should pull right out.
Its been some time, I didn't use a pliars, I think I finagled the catch free and worked the safety out over the screwdriver.
Its a bugger to get off and a bugger to get back on.
Unless something is broke, the only reason to do it is to get the ID on the hidden part in there.
I did it on one gun to do that, left the rest alone.
I know this is an old thread, but I just reassembled my 1917 Enfield after doing an epoxy steel bedding job, and removing and reinstalling the safety mechanism was not that difficult. I pushed the spring loaded safety plunger in all the way with a screwdriver, then clamped the piece of the safety plunger that protrudes out to the front with a small pair of Vice Grip pliers. This held the safety plunger in all the way so that will a little wiggling and twisting I could insert the safety shaft.
I don't have my trial gun (broken down for parts and to sell the barrel/receiver.
Mine was a bugger, not sure if I want to play with one of the other ones or not.
Good to hear its gone better for others, maybe just me or my gun.
