HOME MADE CASE PREP STATION

This started out as a reply to USGI Bob about case prep, but I decided to post a new thread about it.......


USGI BOB,
I ended up mounting a couple woodworkers vices to my bench. I mounted 2 electric drills and use like a poor mans case prep station.
I put in the proper size primer pocket brush then slide up a already mounted radiator hose clamp on the trigger to set the needed drill speed I need.
Sounds and looks a little silly but keeps my hands free to just feed primer pockets to it. Easier and faster for me than hand twisting the little handled pocket/brush tool. Also works with the inner/outer de burring tool, case length trimming tool head and crimped pocket reamer. After belling I like sticking a nylon/poly brush in the drill and use it to buff out the inside case area. Use to use one of the cordless drills by hand, but this is easier to manage, as I don't have the weight of the tool to hold up. Just keep a wastebasket under each set up to collect debris. Also use a old slide caliper set to proper case length clamped down to bench that helps quickly check case length. It really makes case prep easier and quicker for me. YMMV!

After reading back thru this it sure comes out sounding pretty 'Shade tree' :dancingbanana: but seriously it looks and works nicer than it sounds. Besides what else was I gonna use all those drill guns for after retiring?

Charlie, Sounds pretty slick to me. I know the fatigue of trying to hold onto a cordless drill and still have enough strength left to operate the trigger !! One thing I tried was trimming cases using the Lee tools mounted in a small drill press - that works, but it's a bit scary. I wore leather gloves, but it made holding onto the cases harder. Thanks for the tips! I still spend too much time cleaning pockets and making a mess. I've talked to guys with progressive presses who never even look at primer pockets. :eek: - Bob

I use a Dremel tool with a brass brush to clean pockets when I do care to take the time. Just stick all the cases in upside down in the loading tray and go down the rows. Takes about two minutes to clean two hundred pockets. Then seat a primer and sit them right side up ready to receive powder.

Do you use a separate loading tray for this (because of the mess it makes) and can you give a number or show a picture of the brush? - Bob

No, same trays I don't find it too messy.
Sorry I don't have a number but you can get the brushes in steel and brass either works. The brush forms to clean the flash hole as well. Works well....

Are those brushes from Dremel? I've got a bunch of stuff that came in a kit - need to go take a look! - Bob
