Sorry for the crappy picture - it is from the www - but here's a similar set of proof stamps on another Mauser - also not a great picture - any ideas?

Wouldn't they be English Commercial Proof Marks? I don't know a whole lot about them but it looks like GBP.

Further searching on the www revealed this - anyone know what period it dates from?

Why not translate the German and see if it tells you anything? I assume rauchlosem stands for smokeless from rauchen, the German to smoke.
