Enfield MKIII - LGS Find - Tell Me More! A Good Buy??????

I have to decide if this is my first Enfield to add to Mosin's and Mauser's. Pics below. There are comments from some great guys on another board suggesting a sanding and refinish job on the stock. Others there have commented on the peculiarity of the barrel/muzzle. What do you guys think?

On consignment: $575.00 includes 200 bullets and 2-3 hundred casings and Lee re-loading dies (I have Dillon 650 loading machine). No import mark. Is it matching?

The good part is I bought $100.00 worth of raffle tickets for a gun recently, which I won. It's NIB! LGS will give me $400.00 trade-in if I purchase the Enfield. So, basically I'd get the Enfield for $275.00.

What are your thoughts, comments or recommendations?

It sure does not look like a WWI vet to me. New wood/near new wood. If you are looking for a collector rifle, keep looking. If you want a shooter, this may well be it.

Great price, and a lovely-looking rifle. If the bore is half decent i would recommend you buy it.

RCS, when you say"it is not in original condition, barrel is a little short too", what are you seeing. exactly?
I see the front sight block lining up OK with the nosecap, metal with the right type of blue, and slightly sanded and varnished wood [walnut] in pretty good condition... but nothing out of the ordinary - what am I missing...?

It is odd not to see the barrel extend beyond the nose cap, some work done on the
muzzle would have reduced the lengthAttachment 85554

It's clear from the pitting on the butt socket which has been refinished over and the condition of the markings that this one has been through an FTR of some kind - and probably the RSAF(E) kind, before WWII I would bet.

What's the date on the barrel?

Yes, the wood has been sanded or steel wooled and oiled, probably by one of us civilians, but probably quite acceptably.

The crown of the barrel has been cut back a bit and some counter-boring done as well.
