Hello everyone, greetings from Canada! I'm new to the forums, fairly new to military surplus rifles too.I recently aquired a Russian Contract 1895 Winchester. Any help, advice, or tips would be greatly appreciated as it's missing a few parts but otherwise in pretty great shape considering. Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Firstly a warm welcome to the site. What a great start and a lovely rifle. These little beauties which were used by nearly every nation in various guises.
It was renowned for having great flexibility in 7.62 x 54mmR for the sniper and general infantry work and .30 - 40 Krag for trench work and also used by many cavalry units of the period especially the Italians.
I have always found the action workings fascinating and cleverly manufactured. I know the British Army used them on a comparison trial as they were said to put more fire down faster and more accurately then a bolt action of the time. There will be those on here who specialise in the rifle and its various roles so good luck and let us know how it shoots when you get round to it. ;)
You're in the right area to find spare parts as the Chilliwack gun show and the Kamloops show are both excellent for that. I've always wanted one of the muskets...now to find the bayonet. Many of those guns had poor bores from the corrosive primers of the time. We've published pics here of the Russian troops using these. I remember seeing them in as new condition at the shows out in Alberta back in the '80's...with bayonet. They were about $700CDN at the time...too much for me.
Nice find Froccer; these Russian contract Winchester 1895s are a joy to own and shoot. Can you post a few more photos to show Russian inspection marks? I finally found a nice bayonet for my rifle.
Unfortunately I don't see any acceptance stamps on the reciever.
Doesn't matter, you have one and the small parts should show up through time, I hope. I haven't even seen one of those in ages.
