Shot my first 100 yd service rifle match with my Win 17 (SR-1 targets)

The gun shoots got a little rattled on the rapid strings bobbled the reload on the sitting string and really hurried my last 4 rounds and it showed. Overall it was fun and I'll try it again but it makes you appreciate the Garand
Rapid fire becomes easier once you get a good cadence down. I am assuming you shot CMP rules, so 80 seconds is more than enough time to get ten well aimed shots off... even with a fumble in the reload. I have learned, that having an open box of ammunition sitting beside me can save my bacon when I fumble a stripper clip during a reload. Get as many in with the clip as possible, and top off with singles before going back to work on the target. Chasing rounds that roll everywhere after a fumbled reload is a pain in the neck... hence the box of ammo sitting close by.
I would be pleased with your prone score... the SR-1 target is a challenge any day of the week. Something I try to remember, is as the string progresses... I need to crawl back on the rifle and re-establish a good position. The recoil will knock me back... and that's where nines for me come from. Usually straight out the bottom.
Offhand... again... the SR-1 target is very unforgiving... makes the 200 yard bull a joyful thing.

I took a very nice Eddystone w/JA barrel to Perry many years back. At round 26-28 the barrel would heat up and climb right off target. Not sure if the barrel was properly heat relieved. I came home from Perry and sold the gun. Mind you the barrel was near mint, it was a CMP rifle and you could not see down the bore. Well, I started to clean the bore and found a wasp nest in the muzzle, but a mint bore was there. All to no avail as the barrel would climb right out of its bed.
