German sword
Hi all,
I have been offered for sale a german sword (WW2) and I don't have a clue as to what it may be worth. I tried to get the picture I have transfered to this thread with no luck, so.....
Here is a description: The ricasso is like flat bird wings, the handle is spiral shaped with what looks like leather, not unlike an Ames US civil war sword. the pontil is round with a swastika
cast in it. the blade in the pic isn't complete.
Any ideas while I attempt to get a picture of it?
thanks

Be especially careful because there are shed loads of fakes and reproductions about. If it's expensive get an expert's opinion before parting with your hard earned cash, unless you happen to be an expert on WW2 German edged weapons yourself.

I am NOT an expert in any way... That being said the transaction also includes a BYF Mauser and bayonet. I am assuming "bringback" as the guys father had already sold a German luger, flags and other war items and this is the last of the stuff in the family.

I believe I have found info on the German sword....
It is a Luftwaffe 1st pattern sword
As to my original post any idea on what it may be worth??

Email me the pics and I'll post them here...check your PMs. We need to see it for opinions...

Here's the picture he sent me... I believe that's Luftwaffe? Earlier pattern?

No idea, I know nothing about swords or knives of the Nazis except most of them you encounter are reproductions. That however looks like the real deal.

Yes, It's a correct one. Just not in great shape.

Aspen 80 and Jim,
You are right it is in fact a Luftwaffe Dagger, but not in good condition.
The Luftwaffe instituted the use of a dagger in 1934. This link might help and show you the condition it should be in:

If presented in that condition with a scabbard £350 ish in the UK would be the top end IMHO

So more like Condor legion...I have had the sword and the daggers come past me here. Nice light blue leather wrap, very fine and thin. I've seen about two daggers and one sword.
