Browning Hi-Power Finish Question

This isn't related to restoring a collectable but this forum is as close as I could find in terms of someone who knows what they're talking about. I didn't see anything regarding such a post, if I'm trespassing I apologize in advance.

I have a couple of hi-powers the one I need help with is a Mk. III with the semi gloss type epoxy finish. I've managed to ding up the finish without actually damaging the metal (thankfully). I have searched high and low but cannot find out if there's anything that will "patch" my mistake that will blend in since this stuff is basically paint to me.

At the present I've feathered the area out and actually (don't laugh) sprayed some Krylon extra fusion flat black that I had used years ago to put some sort of a finish on an old beater "barn shotgun". It worked for the shotgun and I wanted to get something on the bare metal that'll clean off easily when needed. It actually matches the finish on the pistol but there's got to be something close to the original. I just need pointed in the right direction.

Like I said, not exactly restoring a priceless relic but it is a very nice pistol and I hate to see it injured. I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

There's Duracoat.

I think the MK3s have a coat much like the duracoat too...I have a two tone and the slide seems to be exactly that...

I will check it out. Browning or FN or whoever just describes it as an epoxy finish which you know could be just about anything and I could find absolutely jack nothing about it. It's a thick plastic type finish, very low gloss but not a purely "flat" finish either. I shall look into it, thanks guys!

What I would have done when time came is bead blast it clean and replace it with a nice matt blue. It would look spectacular.

My favorite BHP for shooting is also a former Israeli owned Mk.III and the epoxy finish was chipped and scratched much like the OP's. I bead blasted, Parkerized and painted/baked it with Suncorite 259 like a British Army FTR Inglis No.2Mk.1* and L9A1 and it's good as new. I'm not so sure the Suncorite isn't a better paint finish than what ever epoxy paint FN used originally. You have to stir it for a good while before thinning and spraying it but it's as durable as any paint finish I've ever seen.

That Mk3 finish is an epoxy type two-pack(?) powder stuff and we started to use it on the 'new' H&K SA80 magazines. The problem was that there was only one workshop that had the facilities to use it!

To refinish is a long term option when the extra money is around. All my guns were bought when I was working, now I'm on 50% disability of a wage that wasn't that much to start with. I've seen suncorite on stuff and do like it but right now I'm just needing to make sure nothing bad happens to the bare spot I made and temporarily fixed.

Might check out Alumihyde II @ Brownells . Comes in a spray can & quite durable when properly cured.
Could be an economic solution for touchup.
