I picked up a Spear Point SA 1906 Bayonet, not in great condition but cool just the same. It was shortened to 10" by Utica Cutlery if you look at the picture you can see the "U.C.-MOD" stamp under the serial number.
Also picked up an assault hammer ;) actually a cool vintage machinist double headed hammer that I'm going to restore and rehandle. I've only ever seen one of these before.
A classic example of an arsenal overhaul of a 1905 blade with all steps completed. There's a blade that well may have seen about 4 major wars... The hammer, I'd either bead blast and parkerize and then rehandle or soak in muriatic acid and clean it...neat old smasher for the workshop.
Jim, The it was the "U.C.-MOD" stamp that caught my eye but I thought it was a later maybe WWII vintage because of the handles being bakelite. The hammer is getting the fixings; I think the parkerizing is a great idea, I was just going to paint it after the acid batch and file work. She's going to be beautiful in my workshop.Quote:

Those bayonets sometimes kept the wood scales if they were good, usually they ended up changed sometime during another overhaul. I've seen them marked on the spine too... Good clean catch though. I had a nice early one or two like that too. One had the upswept bowie...
