RUGER 10/22 25 MAGS

Anybody else had any dramas with the new RUGER 10/22 BX 25 mags and the feed just dropping away or am I alone? I disassemble them after a period of rabbitting and clean them out, but the spring coils don't seem up to it anymore!!

We were just talking about them at our gunshow this past weekend, didn't hear anything bad about them...

If you have ever taken them apart they are a shooters dream to clean. I got two recently both playing up, have had to revert to my old ones.
I took them both apart and found the red plastic plate rail had come off its tracks and the spring coil had dropped to the bottom of the mag with rounds sat there looking up at me. They have never liked being topped up fully with 25 rounds, maybe thats the issue.
Just wondered if anybody else had issues with the new breed?

I know it goes against our creed for maintenance, but if you keep in mind these were made for the civilian market...perhaps you shouldn't strip them? Just a bit of cleaning at the lips and call it good? If they pack it in after stripping...?

Ours are about to be banned so you should be able to get them out of Canada for cheap...

The world has gone crazy.......banned in Canada, unbelievable, yes read an article only allowing you guys 10 round mags, what is the sense in that.

Agree with your philosophy Jim, but Ruger advocate a regular clean internally as per the video. Must admit I put about 100 through it at the range and it collected a lot of lead shavings in the base, that may be the cause!:thup:

Wish I could have a look at them Gil, I'd sort them out for you...t'would be no problem I think.

As for sensibility, that was never considered. All done for safety of the gov't. If you're going to beat a dog, pull his teeth so he can't bite.

I dissembled them as you do, to see what the issue was, and it looks like shavings of lead coming off rounds dropped into the feed tray and the workings and pushed the rounds out of sync so they were rattling around with no spring pressure beneath them to push them to the fore.
Strange never had that with the old ones as its a really simple system.:surrender:

Maybe the way to go is use brake cleaner with the little red tube extension and spray into them while holding upside down. They'll wash the loose stuff out and no stripping needed...and dry shortly after.

I’d be careful of that stuff-it’s pretty much pure acetone, plays havoc with most plastics.

I have a mag but haven't even fired the rifle yet. I'm rather slow at shooting the things I have. Haven't been to the range in 3 years now. Keep forgetting to renew.
