Found This Mark
Attachment 88308 Found this mark on a M1 butt-stock. I cant tell if its stamped with ink or a die. The stock has been bedded some time ago with black epoxy around the heel of the receiver, along the rails and inside the action area and the TG mortise.
The work has been very well done and I bought it from a friend who got it from the CMP in 2013 and never shot it.
I thought it was interesting and placed it here to learn more about it. ( The Mark) The down side is that the heel of the stock does not stand proud of the butt-plate at the toe so its not very attractive in that regard but otherwise it has two proof marks and a fresh RIA stamp to the right of the mark in question. Anything someone would like to share would be appreciated.
Thank You, Brian

The mark appears to be SA inside a poorly stamped (or worn) rectangular box. Below that is a T.
SA normally stands for Springfield Arsenal.
I cannot tell from here whether the marks are original or faked.
Over to the real experts!

The inspection stamp appears to be what is called an open box "SA".
Generally appear in post war rebuilds and re inspections.
"T" may or not be the inspector at SA.
respectfully submitted

That's not inked in but just dirt impregnated, could be grease or oil...but darkened with time.
