Colt LE6900 carbine - Any Good?

I was in my favorite local gun shop, yesterday, and could not help being attracted to a Colt LE6900 carbine.

I liked the balance & handling, telescoping butt, aluminum 'tube' hand-guard, trigger pull, and scope/sight mounting options.

I am a traditional Springfield, Krag, and M-1 Garand kind of guy. I have not had much to do with 'Black Rifles'.

At $600 New, the compact Colt LE carbine looks like a fun 50 to 100 yard 'plinker' and Home Defense gun.

What is the experience and inside story on these simplified low cost AR type rifles?

It will serve you just fine. They're almost all about the same. Unless you pay for one of the REALLY expensive ones...this one will be fine.

Should be good to go. The AR15 is the most popular rifle in America, and 99.9% are about 99.9% interchangeable. Colt has been making them the longest, starting in about 1960! That's almost 60 years, so they pretty much have it figured out now! LOL

I kind of changed gears and put a 'used', but, still 'factory new', Bushmaster 16" heavy barrel carbine in Layaway. At $499 for a virtually new rifle, it had a lot of things I liked. The ergonomics and balance work for me.

It is a Bushmaster that was made in Maine, back when they had a great reputation. I wanted iron sights and wasn't planning to put a scope on a 'plinker'. This has an A1 receiver with the early style 'fixed handle' and rear-sight. The stock is a fixed A2 type.

This Bushmaster lacks a bayonet-lug and flash-hider (which I don't need), so I'm guessing, it was made before the Assault Weapons Ban expired in the mid-1990's. Somebody bought it, stored it, and never used it, (I will)!

If I get the hankering for a collapsible stock, I just need to get a mil. spec. buffer tube, buffer, buffer spring, and hardware. My local dealer has a box full of new collapsible butts. He will give me my choice, loan me his wrench, or help me put it on.

Sounds about right to me. Pics once you have it of course... I'm not sure you'll know the difference between a milspec collapsible and a commercial, once you have it on. You may want it for the difference between you with and without your coat.
