Looks like they're demonstrating the new types of gas masks...available then... That's something you don't see much for collectible, those canvas gas masks.
Great uncle was in that conflict and survived mustard gas attack, he may have lived longer if he had one of those masks instead of a urine soaked rag to breath through. That pic shows how fast war advances defences.were those masks given out that early?
Same here Paul, my Grandad was also gassed there. He was apparently the only survivor among his comrades.
I still have his paybook that clearly says "(GAS) returned home Peterborough"
He never fully recovered and died in 1942
We can't imagine the living horror they went through to fight for our freedom.
Conversly I remember as a child visiting my relations in Luneberg in Germany, and both my Great Uncles often getting sick and having a potty to hand to catch their pure red blood being chucked up.
They were gassed by the British. What a cras way of fighting by ALL sides and very unsoldierly, but one has to recognise history, and it was the Germans that introduced it !!!!
