Just added my first Arisaka rifle to my collection. My father-in-law picked this up from a neighbor and gave it to me. I'm thinking it is a naval cast iron receiver type 99, but I'm not sure. The bore is rifled, nice and bright. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is a navy special , and an early one at that . It looks to have been varnished at some time , too bad on that . They are hard to find .
Is it varnished or just oiled? The 1st three look like it might be oiled.
I read somewhere that they were made by the Italians for the Jap Navy and the parts may not interchange.
Those were the Type I rifles, completely different rifles made with a Carcano action not Arisaka action.Quote:

The bore is fully rifled, nice and bright.
The rifle is a navy special , just as stated . It is a fully functional rifle for standard service ammo .
