Doubt if they were in contact, all the personnel are open, armoured windscreen open, some more stuff in the bushes, etc
Sort of like a tanker on left side rear (May be a depot station), that sprung drum on the front I gather is to aid in negotiating large banks to stop the nose digging in is that correct.
I thought that was a cable winch drum.
Could be never thought of that I guess couple of turns around it to stop slippage would not want to be the GI who got the short straw but.........!
Correct, the drum in front is to prevent nose digging in.
Left rear is to aid in getting out when stuck. Fasten cable to cage, engage drive and wind cable onto cage from wherever is fastened to, pulling vehicle out backwards. Don't see it often but it works if nothing else is available.
