Not to include Duplicated serial numbers like when Inland used WRA serial numbers.
Or when Saginaw Gear overrun in to Inland numbers.
Question is:
Did Inland overrun any of it's assigned serial number blocks in to another makers assigned serial numbers?
Seen something interesting today... :thup:
But I had to promise I wouldn't reveal it, until given the owners OK to do so.

Remember Inland did receive some receivers from other makers that were already serial numbered and may not have been lined out. Mostly for testing no doubt but very well could have been used afterwards for production.
You will find some Inland overruns. They are marked with an "X" suffix. I have one in my collection.

A Inland with some other makers assigned serial number on it...... Again with no X's, Line outs, Line thru's or over stamping with the Inland name over the assigned to makers serial number...
Receiver made by Inland.
I gave my word that I wouldn't Tell. But more later if given the OK by the new owner. Who's Currently waiting on delivery.. :move eek:

This is what Charlie has been posting about. It's an Inland receiver with a Standard Pro serial number. It appears to be a stamping malfunction and either the first and/or second digit hung. It is a third block receiver.
Newscotlander and I discussed this receiver when it first appeared on Gunbroker late last year. From the pictures that were initially attached to the auction it was difficult to determine much about the receiver other than it was an Inland made receiver and the serial number was not applied by Standard Products. After several more telling photos were added it became quite clear as to the serial number discrepancy.
While remotely possible, it is extremely unlikely it is a reused serial number, for the simple fact Inland did not need to reuse serial numbers. Throughout their production period Inland had more serial numbers assigned to them then they had contracts for. Looking at Inland's contracts and associated serial number assignments it is obvious they, or Ordnance, planned for scrapped receivers after serial number application.
One picture included with the auction shows the receiver was manufactured during or after the beginning of the early Inland 3 million serial number range. The receiver details and the fact inland did not need to reuse serial numbers strongly point to a mis-indexed serial number die during the stamping process.
If the serial number read 3049665 instead of 2049665 all the receiver details would be consistent with that serial number range. The barrel and barrel date are unimportant as while it is in the correct date range it is not the original barrel.

couple years back was a Inland with a NPM serial or a NPM with Inland serial--forget which--it was for sale on Gunbroker
I guess anything is possible. I have a 1911A1 made by Remington that sports a Colt serial number.
