Need help

Good Evening,

I was looking at a Mauser short rifle that is imprinted with 1916 and nothing else on the receiver but for the serial number and it is a 7mm.
In my research I thought I had read about a/some Mausers that had bare receivers, but I can't seem to locate it now when I need it.
Can someone here lead me to the path I am looking for? I do not have this piece in hand.

1916 is a Spanish type short rifle. They were originally in 7mm although many later converted to 7.62 NATO.
