Looking at a Luger. Matching except the mage. The. Grip on safety side has a chip on top back. It is completely separated. But still there. Can this be glued? Will it hold up to shooting?
Dwm 1929 I think that was the date. Looks in good shape except for the grip

No just did a quick drive by before an appointment. It looked good. All visible numbers matched. Just a small chip on the top rear corner that is still in place but can wiggle with pinger

ebay has tons of grips for Lugers starting at $19.00 and up and Numrich has them also. I would get a set of repro grips and take off those originals and leave them in the safe. Who knows you might find an original matching set on there but they will be pricy. I've done this with several of my antique military pistols. It takes the guilt out of shooting them somewhat. Replace whatever coil springs you can find new as they are now 89 years old and have lost some of their strength. Use standard weight springs not heavy duty.
Do a search there are several Luger forums on the 'net where you can get more info on your particular piece. On any of them you will be told that to shoot it is sacrilege. I shoot all of mine for 2 reasons (1) that's what it was built for not just sitting in the safe (2) it's mine and that's what I want to do with it! I use them rarely and with great care when I do.
Correct ammo is important. NEVER use +P ammo the gun wasn't built for it and find ammo with 124gr bullets. The Parabellum round is what the gun was intended to use which is 124gr. Heavier bullets may affect the recoiling action due to their excessive weight and 115gr bullets may cause feeding problems because they are a shorter overall length. Also avoid hollow points as they will also cause feeding problems and subsonic rounds might not cycle the action properly. Good luck with it. - Bill

1750 in which currency? Anyway, whether it's dollars (Canadian or US), pounds or euros, that seems too much. I can, of course, only go by the market here in Mauserland, where for that price you would expect to get something of superb quality - perfect matching, no visible wear, in fact well-nigh mint.
BTW, if you want to shoot a Luger (P08 or LP08), the advice from oldfoneguy is 100% correct. Any other bullet than the 124gn round nose causes stove-piping/feeding problems in my LP08, and anything with a muzzle velocity much over 320 m/sec will be hammering the knee-joint mechanism. That is one very good reason to replace the mainspring, as a tired spring lets the joint slam back too quickly. The best ammo (if you can find it) is made by Lapua and was specifically for Lugers, keeping within the 320 m/sec limit. It is also very expensive.
Thanks I was thinking high but last gun show I went to in ky I could not find anything under $2000. This one to the untrained eye is in better condition then what I saw. How ever I found another one almost in as good condition with good grips for $1350.00 going to take a first hand look later today.Quote:
