I dropped by the Orange Coast Auction house yesterday. They are getting ready for a big June auction. They have a Chinese built GEW98 in the auction. It has "AMBERG" misspelled, but otherwise is very nice. Has the WWI sights and must have been a difficult build for the Chinese.
Had one a while back...everything completely misspelled or utter gibberish. Very interesting piece.
I have seen piles of Chinese Kar98k's. They are not rare at all. But have seen only one Gew98. Well made, but obviously old and beat to death. They were likely made right around WWI and served long and well. Most of the bolt guns ended up in the Militia and were not properly cleaned or maintained.
