Savage marking's?
My Savage has some markings on I'd like to know more about. On the receiver is a stamping "BDF". On the butt stock socket there is a "B" and a "J". On the side of the butt stock is "OW", and along the underside of the grip is "M, 9, and W". Any ideas? Thanks for any help!
Regards, Don

BDF usually stands for Belize Defense Force. Springfield Armory may be an importer's marking.

Thanks for the help breakeyp. I was mostly sure on the Springfield. It's stamped Geneseo, IL on the end of the barrel and that's where SA is located. I'll throw a little google-fu at Belize Defense Force and see what I can find.

The meaning of the 'B' is presently unknown, but we do know, from the Savage-Stevens operation routing sheets, that it was applied as one of the very last operations before cleaning and packing.

As far as I am concerned[alot will disagree].the B on the butt socket means it is a Replacement action. S

Thanks for the help S. I was wondering if any of these were FTR stamps. The bolt and magazine #'s don't match the receiver #, but everything else but the ladder sight has the square S stamp. The sight has a B which I think is a BSA replacement sight.
I also found the Belize Defense Force on Facebook and messaged them but haven't got a reply to if their unit were ever issued Enfields. Doubtful as the unit was formed in 1978.

The extensive pitting certainly fits with service in a place like Belize, and a lack of proper storage.
