Standard Products (SJ) stock restoration

I purchased this stock on eBay about a week ago! I got a really good deal on it. As soon as it was delivered by the UPS man, I promptly took it to a reputable furniture/wood restoration shop to get this "dry" stock looking good again!

I hope this cartouche is legit :)

I searched the forum high and low to compare, but I am still on the fence... I also compared it to the harrison markings, and it appears to be different.. Not sure what to think...

Nice stock, but I have to ask why not get some Raw Linseed Oil and oil the stock yourself.

I would test fit a buttplate on first and see how much potential overhang there is. I picked up an WRA stock on eBay a while back that had been stripped down like yours and I had miserable buttplate fit and later found a bad crack in the recoil plate seat; I sent it back.

I live in an apartment complex, and I do not have the space to be able to properly undertake that project. I looked into it, and it looks like it would have been a fun experience if I had a garage or something.

It came with a buttplate already on it, and the fit seems ok. As far as I can tell, there was no overhang. Hopefully the stock is problem free.

:wave:First mistake; comparing it to Harrison's drawings. If it did look like his, then it would be fake. His drawings of ordnance stamps are highly inaccurate. You need to compare it to the ones in War Baby. Those are correct.

That's a good thing.
Some what hard to see but, the stamp appears to be original to the stock.
We'll get a better view after it's oiled.
Look forward to seeing the 'After Picture'
Do you have something to put in that stock ?

As soon as I get it back, I will post some pictures.

I am going to put my mixmaster Underwood in it. The rifle is has a 2.5M serial, winchester flat bolt, rock-ola trigger housing, underwood trigger, inland slide, and a winchester barrel with a bayonet lug.
When I purchased it, I knew nothing about M1 Carbines, but after searching this forum for hours I was able to find out quite a bit of information about it.
Thankfully, I do not have an import mark anywhere on the gun, and the receiver does not have any signs of being cut in half lol.

Once the stock is finished, this carbine is going to be the gem of my firearms collection. I have glocks, berettas, ar15s.... But nothing has the history behind it like this carbine I bought.

When looking for one, that's a hard stock to find. I've found and own a number of S-HB stocks, but never seem to come across any SJ's.
I believe it will be a nice looker when finished up.

What was the stock make that came on it ?

To Add, Being a 2,5 mil UEF... Is the receiver stamped on the rear as being a Sub Contract made... letter: B, S, T, W,WTA or WWA ?

When I bought it, it had a reproduction M1A1 folding stock. I ended up buying a NOS Springfield Armory M1/M2 stock to put on it in the meantime.

I stand corrected... I have a 2.6M serial, not a 2.5M.

Here is a pic of the stamp below the serial. A "b" with some sort of moon crescent...
