Barelling Machine
Ever see one of these? It's a fixture to install M1 barrels, indexes them perfectly. This is a precision machine tool that weighs about 200 lbs. In typical government fashion, it is only intended to put barrels on, not take them off. Ah, but a typical ex-GI found a way to modify it very slightly so it will also remove barrels :) A long time ago Sarco had three of them for sale, I bought one.

Wonder who did the mod to the machine!

Could you give us a idea how it works?

Screw the barrel on hand tight and insert the assembly into the machine at the far left. There are three sliding levers to tighten the receiver in the exact proper position. Engage the top slot of the barrel with the key in the opening on the right, the indexing arm will register near the lower tick mark (it's all the way down in the photo). Pull the large lever across the front until the index arm mark points to the top mark, it's done :)

Neat piece, looks like it was still bolted down though. I'd love to see it set up to make the picture clearer. Would make things easier than using the anglemeter I guess...

I had a chance to buy one a few years back, in hindsight I should have
