Springfield 1903 mk1?

I recently inherited my grandfather's rifle and most I can figure is the barrel has been cut and one time it had a peep sight mounted to the one side and a scope on the other but I can figure out what mount it would have been. I am also wondering about the stock not sure if its after market or chopped up original, now on to the bolt I have figured out that it is nickle steel but why is there what looks like a f with a punch over it? If anyone can fill me in on the marking one the barrel and the bottom of the receiver. I would greatly appreciate any info any one has to offer if more pictures are needed I can take more

From what I can tell it looks like your father's rifle was a WWII rebuilt Springfield Model 1903 Mark I for the Pedersen Device. Someone got screw hole happy with several different sight mounts both telescopic and aperture types. The stock looks like a heavily modified military stock. The markings on the barrel are US Ordnance proof markings the date 2-44 would indicate a possible WWII rebuild. The original barrel dates would run from late 1918 through the early 1920's depending on the serial number of your rifle. A great many of these rifles were sporterized in the late 1950's through 1960's as they were dirt cheap and no hunter wanted to take a military rifle into the woods to hunt with.

4EX, This is a "high number" receiver and would make a nice shooter. You could plug the unused holes and find some appropriate sights or mount a scope. Post the spacing measurement of the two scope mount holes that straddle the pedersen ejection port and maybe we can figure out what mount was used. I don't think I would drill any more holes! The scope mount might be a Weaver T3 as shown in this photo. Here's a link to some pictures on another forum.

The distance for the holes that are over the pedersen port is 2.14in than from the hole behind the pedersen to the middle hole is 2.84in and from behind pedersen to the first hole is 3.64in

4ex-- I found a Weaver T03 mount in my parts box. The holes measure 2.375 center to center. Are your measurements center to center? I think the T03 is the same as the T3. Did you look at the 1903 in the link I posted. I think that rifle is setup like yours was. If the measurement works out you could pick up the mount on Ebay. Salt Flat

Yes the hole measurements were center to center. I did check it out and I will check out Ebay. I thank you for for your help its greatly appreciated!
