Please help identify a 2 inch rifle launcher cup part 2

This may be Indian made as the mounting block hole that fits the nose cap boss is shaped like a couple of Indian 2.5 inch cups. Mr. Penn at the Imperial War Museum and a friend could find nothing about it but opined that it might be an illumination/flare launcher under development. It is steel, 10 1/2 inches long. The bore is 2" and 9" deep. Attachment is for the No.1 rifle. The unit markings are unknown. There are no makers markings.
