Just a question who was allowed to carry 1911's most of the officers I see in Marks & other pics have them also either carrying a M1 Carbine or a Thompson obviously this chap prefers a Garand.
Is that middle guy packing a flamethrower?
 sure is
Marines by the look. The pistol is issued according to the TO&E, table of org and equipment. It's not being allowed, as everyone wanted a pistol for backup when the major weapon packed up, machine gunners needed one and others that didn't get an issue close in defense weapon...I'll bet the TO&E is here somewhere if you look.
I would want one no matter what I carried just for piece of mind. Even carrying that nice BAR
That guy with the BAR makes it look like a carbine. Always heard the smallest guy in the platoon got "stuck" with it...
Russ
Could that be Korea?
It doesn't look too hot....
Officers in line companies were supposed to be issued rifles (remember Band of Brothers movie) often they had their own pistols too. Some were issued or obtained carbines,
we are talking WW2 and Korea.
Pistols were issued to the guys that carried the M79 during Viet Nam
