Colt 1911 A1

Colt 1911 A1- I bought from a friend that was moving out of state. He told me he paid $230 for it when he bought it from someone he knew. When I saw the United States Property markings my mind started to race. What should I offer to be fair to him but not over pay. I asked if he would take $500, he said yep almost be for I finished my offer. That eased my mind that he was very happy with the price and so was I. I looked up the serial number and found it was made in 1924 and also read that would make it the first year for the 1911 A1. I find it interesting that it is marked United States Property with no other markings to show which department it went to. I am new to United States Property 1911's and am trying to learn more about them.

Looks like two put together from the color, maybe a bit and pieces gun?

Slide is from a much later Colt pistol. You can check under the firing pin stop plate to see if the slide is numbered. But either way, the original slide is missing.

The slide pictured appears to be phosphate finish. Slides were no longer marked with the model markings after 1937. Phosphate was not used on new pistols until 1941. Better pictures and more information would be required to say more.

Its a 1911 A1. Its original frame and an original government issued slide, what more can a fellow want?

That FRAME in the current CMP auction release, would probably set you back 800$ possibly without internal parts... SO you made a deal.

A cheap ARMSCOR 1911 that reputable smiths say isn't up to any tolerance standard costs as much... SO YOU WON THE LOTTO...

Be happy, load it with low pressure cast ammo and behave with it. Get a good replica holster for it and be happy.
