Has to be a later photo too, right hand M1 rifle has a M1 sling, flat slider...the Carbine up front seems to have an adjustable sight...or is it just me? Wonder where this one was taken...
I notice that they're all smiling except the man front left and rear right. I wonder what they were thinking.
I wonder if that helmet survives in a museum or private collection somewhere because it is the sort of thing seen in museums occasionally?
Sometimes it is an object that the soldier has had in his pocket that has saved his life by stopping or deflecting a bullet. Sometimes it pays to have a bible, or other type of publication, in one's pocket. The case below may have been a long range shot where some of the energy behind the bullet had already been lost?
